Grade 8: Visite Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence and Museum

On October 13, 2016, the eighth graders went on a highly anticipated field trip right after the sports meet. It was truly a week of great activities. Two or three classes went to different places planned for our visit. Class one and six went to Sun Yat-sen’s residence and museum, three, eight, five went to the railroad museum, class eight, nine, ten went to the urban planning museum.

Each of these museums has some sort of historical reference, allowing the students to learn while having fun and socializing.

In detail, Mr. Sun’s residence and museum shows this great historical figure’s most significant checkpoints in life. Also some of his most treasured artifacts, including his old surgery set, pistol, and general’s sword. The museum was built inside Mr. Sun’s neighbor’s house, which was three stories tall! Students deduced much from Mr. Sun’s writings, apparel, and even the residence itself. You can find students eagerly snapping pictures of artifacts. Why? Along with the field trip, a new extra credit history project was put into place. It required the students to really focus on the material at hand and learn through the information presented to them in the museums. Students had to take a picture of themselves with a primary source and analyze the source. The project is worth two extra points in their history term score but completely optional. The students now find the field trip not just a time to relax but also earn extra points!

On the school bus back to school, most students were still talking about what they saw and learned, all finding this trip a pretty rewarding experience.
