Grade 8: Mac Class
Grade 8: Mac Class
In the morning of September 23rd, the 8th grade Chinese native H’s creative writing class was scheduled to be taught in the Mac classroom, enabling the students to feel the beauty of both literature and technology.
The students acted according to Mr. Lu. They first checked out the Mac books using their ID card. By entering the teacher’s group chat code, the students logged in to the Edmodo website and entered the “8H Reading and Writing” group chat. In the “The Logic of Language” part, the teacher uploaded a messed up version of Bian Zhilin’s Fragment. The students were given two minutes to rearrange the sentences of the paragraph so that the paragraph made sense. The results appeared out immediately after the students finished the question. Then, the students clicked the button that says “Studying information” to open the lecture notes of today’s class. The homework of the day and the due date were also uploaded onto the Edmodo group chat. The students can interact with each other freely on the Edmodo group chat, and the teacher can enter the overall score as well as the comments of the class.
The topic of the day’s creative writing class was “Nature has Emotions”. By using the multi-media, the students can better get a sense of the language, emotion, and scenes in Chinese poetry and other classics to adopt them into their writings. The Mac class also let the students and the teachers experience exciting modern technologies and to encourage them to try out a more pluralistic style of teaching and studying.
The class not only gave the students an unforgettable experience, it also breached traditional teaching methods by teaching the students to be self-contained and have more efficiency while studying. The only con of using the Mac books to teach is that the wifi is extremely unstable, rendering some students unable to participate in the activities. Therefore the teachers must be prepared for this problem, and not rely entirely upon technology.
