International Division High School Maths Faculty's Seminar
On the morning of Oct. 14, the faculty of High School Maths in the international division had a seminar themed “Cope with Changes & Team up for Challenges”. To kick off the session, Ms. Liu Shan briefed the latest changes that took place this semester. She emphasized that changes would bring about opportunities, and encouraged all the Math teachers to embrace these changes and make good use of their competitive advantages accordingly. Then she elaborated on these changes in detail. First, Individual Outstanding Awards, including the purpose, corresponding measures, especially Maths-related awards and the timeline of the nomination process. Secondly, platforms for teachers’ development, including academy, senior project, competitions and clubs, to name just a few. She encouraged teachers to combine Maths and other disciplines, while collaborating with teachers in other faculty. With these potential opportunities in mind, the teachers present had a heated discussion on how to choose suitable topics and how to write a good proposal, with a group presentation of the brainstormed topics. They further discussed what they can do as teachers in the process. In the end, they discussed on formative assessment, with a comparison to summative assessment, presented the advantages of this new assessment method and the approaches they can take.
