Pudong Grade 4: Science Class Monthly Review

Grade 4 students had a blast in science this month! We began the semester with learning about cells, the building blocks of life. Students had the opportunity to visit our school laboratory and observe microorganisms under a microscope. Students made observations and shared their findings with peers. The students were then tasked with creating a 3-dimensional model of a plant or animal cell. The cell models were amazing! The models were made of everything from Legos, to foam and to clay. After we wrapped up the unit on cells, it was time to move on to bigger things: the classification of the known organisms on Earth to be specific. The students were introduced to the 6 kingdoms of organism. We discovered that organisms on Earth vary from the beautifully simple ancient bacterium to the fantastically complex Homo sapiens. Then the science students learned about how scientists worldwide use Latin to classify and name the 1.75 million known species. We are excited about getting back to Science class after our national holiday! Please remember to use warm water and soap to protect yourselves from dangerous microorganisms on your hands!
