AP Statistics faculty's symposium

On the afternoon of September 27th, the faculty of AP Statistics held a symposium on scoring guidelines for free response questions, and also teaching resource sharing. First, Ms. Liu Qin shared the approaches she had been using in grading test papers. With a few concrete examples, she emphasized how to ensure fairness and accuracy in identifying key-points in students’ writing. Next, she demonstrated how to explain to students where to improve and where to clarify in their wording. Then Ms. Gao Yueer presented online statistical activities that can be used in Chapter 7 to 10 of the AP Statistics course. This visual demonstration is quite vivid to students and may help a lot in students’ comprehension of association, correlation, outlier, influential point, etc. This symposium was quite productive and beneficial to all the teachers present. Such regular sharing and discussion is a routine strategy in Shanghai High School International Division to ensure teaching quality and improve teaching approaches.
