Grade11: SAT/ACT Writing Workshop

On the 20th and 21st of September, SHSID’s College Counseling Office arranged two sessions of SAT/ACT writing workshops for Grade 11 students. The workshop was given in the auditorium of the Xianmian Annex Building. Speaker Mr. Duc Luu was a graduate from Yale University, and the other speaker Mr. Brandon Aiono was a graduate from Dartmouth College. They gave lectures on the differences between SAT writing and ACT writing. Using an interesting metaphor, the speakers described the relationship between the theme of an essay and the following paragraphs as the relationship between the CEO and the other administrators in a company. During the workshop, students were given a sample SAT essay to read. Through interactive questions, students worked with the speakers to analyze the paragraph structure and writing skills deployed in that essay, which helped the students learn how to construct a good SAT Writing essay.
