Grade 8： Students Experience the Charm of Apple Laptop Program in Chinese Class

This semester, our school launched an Apple laptop program to expand the breadth of teaching and allow for more new digital and research activities across all subject areas. On September 23rd, the school’s 8th graders experienced the charm of this new program in their Chinese class.

It was the first class on Friday morning. Everyone in Ms. Chen’s Chinese class went to the recording room on the first floor of the Zhongxin Building. Right after the students went in, they found themselves surrounded by all sorts of cool tech equipment. Sensors and video camera on the walls and floors were ready to record all of our motions, and the ceiling was covered in microphones. But most the most important thing: the Macbooks on everyone’s desks! This is a brand new teaching environment and a brand new way of learning.

This amazing class began with the students itching to try out their new Macbooks. Ms. Chen made us visit the Edmodo website, let us create an account, and helped us to join the Chinese H-Level Edmodo group. Although the internet wasn’t very fast that day, the class was still fun. After most of the students had finished their online tasks, Ms. Chen started teaching. She taught us various creative writing techniques. For example: how to infuse our scenes with emotions, and methods to make readers to feel immersed in the scene. Everyone was very attentive because we were so interested in this new style of teaching.

When the class was over all the students left the recording room, still talking about how rewarding and amazing this experience was.
