Puxi Grade 6: Team-Building Activities

SHSID’s 6th graders have participated in many different team-building activities. In the new Youth Development class, teachers led each class of students onto the basketball court. There were many activities including the lava race, water race, hula hoop race and many others. Students changed activities every 5 minutes, giving everyone a chance to try everything.

The lava race broke 2 classes into groups of 4 or 5. When the teacher told the students to start, they laid pieces of paper onto the ground, and used them to cross the “lava”. Players had to wait for the team members to pass on pieces of paper from the rear to the front of the team once a “lava” area had been crossed. Although the pieces of paper became slightly dirty after they had stepped on them, it was still very fun.

The hula hoop race was slightly different. The whole class formed a large circle, each person holding hands with the person next to them. Then, a teacher placed 2 hula hoops on 2 people’s arms. They had fun trying to pass the hula hoops across the circle without using their hands.

Overall, this team-building activity was a great success, and that we should do it again soon. Not only did it let students have fun, it also helped students know their new classmates better, and make new friends.
