Grade 9: College Counseling Course

Grade 9 is the 1st year of high school life, and is also the right year to begin planning college application. SHSID provides special college counseling course for Grade 9 students in order to give students the “must-know” information and to help them build the necessary ability to plan for their own future. On September 6th, 2016, Grade 9 students had the 1st college counseling course in the auditorium of Xianmian Annex Building.

The subject of this lecture was “College Plan and Family Connection System”. Ms. Zhang Nan, the lecturer, listed all the indispensible application materials, and explained concisely the essence and tips in the process of preparation. Then she showed the most popular online application tools such as common application, inviting students to browse for specific information in order to learn more of the prerequisites. At last, she also demonstrated the function of the Family Connection system, which aided students and parents to research colleges, register tests, complete personal plan and archives, etc.

Later, Ms. Chen Qin, the speaker from the Teacher Advisor Office in Zhongxing Building, gave a brief introduction to the TA program. This team was meant to help students make individual plans while giving professional suggestion. Students were strongly encouraged to make an appointment and receive consultation from the advisors. What’s more, she publicized the Peer Advisor project, which was recruiting new members to provide academic help for high school and even junior high school students.

The 1st lecture of the course drew a clearer picture of the life in high school life and students may ask for more details from teachers.
