Grade 7-8: Biology Workshop

Biology Workshop is an afterschool club founded by biology teachers of Middle School SHSID. The main goals for this club is to encourage students to participate in scientific research and to improve the basic scientific capabilities of students to operate experiments. And during the activities of the club, students are able to conduct biological experiments based on their interests, with separate focuses on animals and plants/bacteria, students can enjoy spending their time observing the changes of bacteria and fungus while affected by different stimulants, as well as operating surgeries on laboratory white rats. When finished with the experiments, the students are asked to organize information and write reports like professional laboratory scientists. The achievements of the Biology Workshop since the first day of activity were training the students’ basic experimental operation, such as aseptic technique and injection of anesthetics into animals. The activities also developed student’s rigorous scientific thinking, allowing the students to be more familiar with labs and biological topics.
