Grade 9-10: Electric Vehicles Lecture

On June 2nd, SHSID invited a distinguished lecturer from The DOW Chemical Company to the high school Science Fair in order to learn about electric vehicles. Many students were interested in the topic and could not wait for this lecture. To begin, the lecturer introduced The DOW Chemical Company, a scientific technologies company that aims to reshape the world around us to build a better future for everyone. Then, he introduced the electric vehicles. Electric vehicles may be powered through a collector system by electricity from off-vehicle sources, or may be self-contained with a battery or generator to convert fuel to electricity. The speaker lectured about the electric vehicles that use batteries as a source of electricity in detail. He talked about one of the most common categories, the lithium battery, explained the strengths and weaknesses of lithium batteries. In addition to this, a comparison between the electric vehicles and petrol vehicles was also made to highlight a clearer picture of the new transportation modes. He listed several advantages of electric vehicles to further promote the use of them in the future.

The lecture was both interesting and rewarding. The attendees all obtained more knowledge about electric vehicles.
