Grade 9 - 10: Nanotechnology Lecture

On June 2nd, SHSID invited a lecturer from Dow Chemical Company to give 9thand 10thgrade students a lecture on the applications of chemistry in nanotechnology as one of the major event of the high school Science Fair. In room 127 of the Zhongxing Annex building, the lecturer talked about the different usages of nanotechnology in our lives, including nanoart and semiconducting materials. He focused specifically on the usage of carbon and its allotropes, such as the buckyball and graphene, in technology, citing carbon nanotubes and hydrophobic coating as examples of applications in daily life. His speech gave students an idea of chemistry applications in the workplace. Students were extremely enthralled by the lecture, giving the lecturer a round of applause after he finished his speech.
