Grade 7: An Interesting Field Trip

On the rainy morning of May 27th, 2016, the 7th grade students of Shanghai High School International Division crowded around the edge of parking lot 1 with their umbrellas and bags, waiting for the buses to take them on a full day field trip to Shanghai’s Natural History Museum.

The museum was huge, with different exhibits laid out on each floor. Each exhibit had its own unique theme, and it was a very exciting place to explore. It was an incredible experience, filled with sights, activities, and new knowledge. Each class was split into several smaller groups, who's job was to complete a scavenger hunt that ended in a puzzle and a prize.

The main attractions during this field trip were the well-crafted models of a great variety of animals, such as dinosaurs, woolly mammoths, whales, monkeys, and tigers. These large and majestic figures loomed over the students, and occasionally a dinosaur would let out a thundering roar.

Another main attraction was the architecture. The one that stood out the most was the floor to ceiling glass windows that were covered in beautiful designs. Mosaic tiles were made into windows, and the walls were sometimes dotted, sometimes showing images of different animals. A great design was one of the butterflies. Hundreds of model butterflies were set up in circles, making a creative and ornamental pattern of swirls. The museum’s gift shop was also impressive. There, the students brought back memories and remnants of this field trip in the form of stuffed animals, snow globes, and key chains. After a great lunch at the museum’s cafeteria, the seventh graders gathered once again, to take the buses back to school.
