Grade 11: H Level Math Project

On May 24th, the two grade 11 H level Math classes made their appearance in Rm 308 as cute “vendors”! This period was saved for the Math Project finale: the Probability Game Fair. The fair was divided in two 20-minite sessions with seven teams respectively. Each team designed their special games and set up their game booths around the classroom with cards, coins, tokens and props they made on their own, going all out to attract players. The games were delicately designed and each step contained the students’ profound thinking in probability. Blackjack, coin flipping, rock paper scissors… Various classic games are embedded in their design. Of course, fun is not the only thing in the fair. The observers in each team were also carefully recording the frequencies of each step, in order to compare it with theoretical probability they derived by reasoning in their final report. All the way through this project, students’ interest in probability application has been boosted and their understanding enhanced as well.
