SSSA U19 Girls Basketball and U19 Boys Soccer Tournament

Last Saturday saw six teams gather at SHSID, the home of the Stallions, for a fun and competitive day of basketball. Due to a cancellation in the U15 age group, SHSID and KCIS’s U15 teams also participated in the event, alongside fellow SSSA schools, SUIS Wanyuan and FDIS. In the group stages, the SHSID Stallions varsity team, led by tournament MVP Angelina Yu, went undefeated finishing in the first seed, whereas the JV girls won one and lost one to sneak into the semis where they would meet there fellow classmates in a Stallion V Stallion showdown. The JV squad didn’t play scared and came out strong, but some defensive lapses lead to back-to-back buckets from Filipino star forward Jovi Dalena, and would help the varsity girls earn a place in the finals against a solid SUIS Wanyuan Wolves team. In the championship game the Stallions got out to an early lead and wouldn’t look back on their way to yet another gold.

The light rain couldn’t stop the gathering of 6 SSSA school teams last Saturday in a nail-biting tournament that would eventually see SUIS Gubei come up with 1st place in a group that included our SHSID, Guanghua International School, KCIS, Qibao Dwight and YK Pao. Scoring was few and far between on a wet, muddy day that was dominated by solid defense and spectacular goalie play. The eventual championship game would be played between the home team Stallions and SUIS Gubei. An unfortunate hand ball by a Stallions player in the penalty box would result in the game winning penalty that gave SUIS the 1-0 win.
