Prof. Michael.A.Dispezio Gave Presentations at SHSID

On May 17th, invited by SHSID, current senior author of science teaching materials from American Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) publishing company, Prof. Michael A.DiSpezio came to SHSID and gave a lecture titled Academic Introduction to Science Pedagogy, STEM, and NGSS to science teachers who are invited by SHSID, SHS and City (Shanghai) Board of Education Science English Project.

Prof. Michael A.DiSpezio had been working at the schools of Illinois for many years. He had taught at primary schools, secondary schools and high schools and possesses rich experience in teaching. Now Mr. Michael is a professor at Boston University. Up until now, Michael participated in editing over fourty kinds of science books used by America K-12 classes and wrote over 25 best-selling books in science field. He also helped many organizations to publish science articles and organized many scientific projoect activities. Mr. Michael is a speaker full of vitality as well as a teacher training expert. Mr. Michael's updated work is a serie of textbooks Science Fusion for K-8 students, which was published by American Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) publishing company.

The lecture at school Hall was vivid, introducing the future development of STEM and NGSS to teachers. Led by Mr. Michael, the participating teachers did some interactive games such as making straw flute, making cocks crow by paper cups, making paper clips straight and bending them to illustrate rotation handle principle which lead to the origin of engineer. The Chinese and foreign teachers both greatly benefited from these games. After the conference, we invited Mr. Michael to leave his autograph on the series of books Science Fusion which were purchased by our school. These series of books were kept by the secondary school and high school libraries.
