Grade 12: Nexus Trip to Xi'an
Grade 12: Nexus Trip to Xi'an
Right after the mid-term examination, the members of “the Nexus” had stepped on to the journey to Xi’an. Though feeling tired and exhausted due to the exam, a collective caring heart motivated the members to devote themselves to the kids in Xi’an.
After arriving at Xi’an, all members rested early to prepare for the following day. The next morning, Emma, who was the representative from the Library Project, brought us to Xi Xiao Zhang Cun Elementary School. After a two hour car ride, we arrived at the elementary school .
We started our work immediately after we introduced ourselves to the teachers and the students. Each of the members selected several books and read them to the children. They were listening attentively and hoped we could tell more stories. However, we still had to work to do after reading the stories. We had to classify the books we donated according to their genres. With the help of teachers and volunteer students, we were able to finish the work before we ran out of time.
The happiness that we saw from the faces of the children really motivated us; the children’s desire to listen to more stories made us think that all the work was worth it. Though we wanted to tell them more stories and were reluctant to leave, time flies and we had to go.
The trip to Xi’an really meant a lot not only to the children, but also to the members of the Nexus. After this trip, we learned to cherish the resources and environment that SHSID provides.
