Grade 9: WSC competition
Grade 9: WSC competition
WSC stands for World Scholars Cup, it is a competition that focuses on 4 events: team debate, scholar’s bowl, collaborative writing, and scholar’s challenge. The Shanghai regional round was held during the weekend right before the midterms. SHSID students that participated in WSC faced pressure but still enjoyed the competition. Collaborative writing was the first event, held in the morning. Next came the scholar’s challenge, which most of the scholars agreed that it is the hardest test ever. The last event held on the first day is team debate. Three scholars are in a group, and they debate three rounds. Scholar’s bowl was held on the last day, and it included many fun but hard questions. One of the easiest to memorize sections during scholar’s bowl is the cheater’s section. Five top scholar’s challenge teams were chosen. One of the SHSID teams got selected into the top teams. After all the events came the debate showcase and the talent show. Eight top debate scholars from each school got selected and they were to debate a motion in front all the audience. In the talent show, scholars sing, dance, play the piano, and even acted out a monologue from a drama which is quite interesting. Many scholars from SHSID also signed for the talent show. The most exciting moment was the “alpaca adoption” and the closing ceremony. Each scholar received an alpaca, and medals and trophies were given out the closing ceremony. Lastly, every team in SHSID got into the global round, which will be held at Bangkok. Congratulations and good luck.
