Grade 10: Survival Training

The tenth grade students of SHSID went out to enjoy the nature in this mild April. On 25 and 26, the tenth graders had a survival training program with the coaches from Indier outdoor education company.

In the morning of 25, the whole grade gathered in the lawn on campus and met 14 coaches. Then they had icebreakers with the coaches to get familiar with each other. After they were less shy and prepared to more group activities, the students were divided into different groups randomly and formed their teams by creating their own names and designed flags. Each team presented their funny flags and called their slogans to show their unity.

After lunch, students left for the campsite in the Oriental Land. Tent building and boat racing occupied most of the afternoon. Although it was drizzly, everyone worked with all their efforts in these events. They competed, yet cooperated. Shortly after supper, they also learned “Leave No Trace” and presented brilliant skits to show their understanding of the camping morality.

The next day, it began to shower. Students washed up, had breakfast and deconstructed the tents without much complaint. Later, instructed by the coaches, they had scavenger hunt and games such as “Good Better Best”. Through these activities, students built stronger friendship and spirit of solidarity.

How time flies, and the students said goodbye to the coaches and the Oriental Land in the afternoon of 26. The laughter in the two days, however, left best memories for everyone.
