Puxi Grade 1: Learning Capacity for Fun

Recently the first graders have learned capacity units in Math class. American capacity units such as cups, pints and quarts are not very familiar for a six-year old child. So the first grade math teachers thought of many creative ways to help the students learning.

With the parents’ help, the teachers collected many different kinds of containers with different capacity units. All the containers are from their daily life such as milk cartons, juice boxes or butter sticks. On the math class of April 29th, the students understood different units in a very intuitive and vivid way. The teachers also prepared a basin of water and encouraged the students to scoop up one cup of water to the counting cup. The students were very excited to find out the “winner” who was really good at estimating one cup with their hands.

This math class was very unforgettable for all the first graders. They have learned capacity units in a very creative and vivid way and every student enjoyed the pleasure of learning which is the most important.
