Puxi Grade 5: Field Trip

5th graders held the spring field trip at the Shanghai Botanical Gardens. Weather prediction for that day was rain, and it did drizzle from early morning but thankfully, the rain stopped and skies cleared by noon. The 5th graders were going to engage in fun-filled team building activities in their first ever Sprint Scavenger Hunt. They were divided into 28 small groups of 6 or 7, and the aim was to complete all 5 stations of activities as fast as possible. An events company designed the games, and with the help of volunteer moms at each station, the students had to complete each activity as a team.

After a short bus ride to the park, the students assembled at the starting point, where each group was briefed on rules of the activity, and equipped with just a map and compass, they were sent off one team at a time. At each station, volunteer moms and organisers repeated rules of that particular activity to each team. Volunteers also took note of the time and points each team accumulated. These would all be added up at the end and the top ten teams with the shortest times would be awarded certificates.

The majority of teams managed to complete all 5 activities within the designated time. This unique experience was a meaningful activity for all students. Many valuable lessons were learnt, such as co-operation, tolerance, being helpful, and pushing oneself to never give up. The students all did well also on the account that they had to navigate the entire park on their own with no adult chaperone. Well done, 5th graders!
