Puxi Grade 2: Chinese Culture week--Shadow Puppet Play

Week 8 is the Chinese Culture Week of primary section. In four days, second grade held different kinds of activities with the theme of the Art of Chinese Shadow Puppet Play.

On Tuesday, Chinese teacher read an ancient household love story in China called Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai to students. Students were really impressed by this beautiful story.

On Wednesday, students came to school in traditional Chinese costumes. Some wore elegant costumes of the Han Dynasty. Some wore the costume of Monkey King, a famous role in Chinese legend called Pilgrimage to the West. Some wore the costume of emperor of ancient China. In Chinese class, teacher introduced the Chinese traditional art Shadow Puppet Play. Then, students were required to work together to make a drama using shadow figures by themselves.

On Friday, students used their iPads to take a video of their drama and presented it in the front of the whole class. This kind of activity not only increased students’ hands-on practical ability, but also cultivated their cooperation ability, as well as inspiring their interest in Chinese traditional culture.

The Chinese Culture Week came to the end. Students were impressed by the charm of Chinese traditional culture. We are looking forward to the coming of Chinese Culture Week next year!
