2016 China Thinks Big Competition

Over the past four months, 9 teams and 2 individuals represented Shanghai High School (SHS) to compete in the 2016 China Thinks Big (CTB) Competition. Three teams were from the local division while the rest represented the international division. CTB is a Harvard social entrepreneurship competition in which students spend four months to research and provide a solution to a chosen issue. This year, over 3000 students participated in CTB, including both local and international students from all over China.

Delegates of SHS received excellent results. ArchiShanghai, a SHSID team comprised of students from 11(1), placed second on a national scale. They are currently working with the TongJi University Press to publish their colouring books, and their performance in the CTB competition was also reported by China Daily. 古镇古, another team of students from 11(1), and The Seekers, a team from the local division qualified for the nationals invitational round — an invitation only received by 64 teams from a pool of over 500. 古镇古 also received the Outstanding Solution Proposal award. 上海中学国际部文化研究组, along with Amber Cai 11(1), an individual contestant, performed spectacularly at the Oral Defense Day. Amber was given the Exhibition Award for Individual Performance. Participants were also awarded for exceptional work done during the preliminary round. Richard Jin 11(1), another individual contestant, received the Outstanding Individual Research Award and 上海中学小吃与城市发展课题研究小组 was given the Outstanding Final Product Award.
