Grade 10: English Day
Grade 10: English Day
On March 30th, SHSID grade 9 and 10 had our English Day. It was one of the new occasions the school added to our calendar that nourished our school life so much. English day is intended to let tough, seemingly far away academic concepts become more absorbed into the lives of the students. ASB members and many foreign teachers had organized a handful of special events for students to enjoy.
There were four major types of activities. First, a secret event that was revealed in the morning: all foreign teachers in the ZhongXing building prepared English questions and students were to answer them after finding the name cards of the teachers hidden in the building. And students receive gifts from the teachers as a reward for answering the questions correctly.
Popular English songs that everyone liked were played during break time. These songs helped students to enjoy and relax before the next class began. It also reminded students that it was a special day, and everyone was going to be happy.
Singing and dancing performances by students and teachers were held at the lobby during lunchtime. The lunch performances were also a success. The Street Dance club colleagues showed off their awesome dancing skills, while teachers showed great singing skills and good humor. Mr. Alt gave a rap song and won applause from the audience.
Most important of all, the Spelling Bee took place during CAS class in the afternoon. Many students who were selected from their English class participated in the spelling bee competition. Every participant tried their best to spell the words correctly; cheers and sighs took place in the auditorium. At last, Rachel Wang from 10(1) won the 1st place.
Overall, it was a great day, and the courage of all the students who participated in the spelling bee is priceless. For the individual contestants win or lose, it was a unique day and everything was worth it. At the same time, we express a sincere gratitude to the teachers and student organizers of the event, and Director Liu.
