Middle School Study Room：the Speed Calculation Contest

At 12:30 of March 22nd, the speed calculation contest was held in room 413 as one session of the weekly middle school study room. During the P&B that morning, various videos of speed calculation were shown to inspire and stimulate the students. And at last, a dozen of ardent mental math lovers showed up for the contest.

When the speed calculation contest started, Ms.Hu, a math teacher of 7th grade, first showed the students a video about speed calculation of 2 digits multiplied by two digits which elaborated on the skills and methods. After all the contestants fully understood the concept, they got a practice paper which helped to strengthen their new knowledge learned through the video. At last, the final competition officially commenced. When the host and the helpers announced that the competition started, a wave of hands were moving at incredible speeds—all the young geniuses were determined to win the contest and you could feel the intensity in the atmosphere. When the contest was finished, most of the students still talked about the solutions of some questions when walking out the class. All agreed that such activity was undoubtedly exhilarating and rewarding.
