Grade 9-10: Pi Day
Grade 9-10: Pi Day
Last Friday, the 9th and 10th grade ASBs hosted an event named "Pi Day". Based on the mathematical equation of pi, the members of the student body devised a celebration containing a series of events relating to the symbol and value of pi, or in general, math itself. The day started off with a treasure hunt of paper cutouts of the symbol pi. On each was a number or a calculating symbol. The class who had the largest numerical result from these calculations would win a pie. When the bell rang after P&B class, students attempted to retrieve all of the cutouts. They looked under posters, behind blinds, over the air conditioner. Some were easy to find, being taped to the light switches and water cooler. However, most were not so easy. The morning hunt soon ended, and the highlight of the event approached. Lunchtime came soon, and the students rushed out in front of ZXB to participate in the various games the ASB members have planned. Capable mathematicians recited the digits of pie, with the winner managing over 100 digits! Others played a round of 24 points at the table with ASBs and helpers. Students who favor athletics took turns throwing the chocolate pies farthest from the starting point. All this and more went on during the pi fair at lunch. In the end, two classes got to bring home pies to their class with their high scores in their respective grades. What a event it was.
