Grade 7: Fire Drill

As soon as the 7th graders got the news that there was going to be a fire drill on Thursday, we all got excited and were glad our school wanted to make sure we knew the safety procedure in case of emergency.

Thursday couldn’t come fast enough. When the last two periods finally rolled around, our homeroom teachers dug out a red bag from a cabinet. With some help from students, the teachers then took small towels from the red bag and wetted them using water bottles. After instructing us to hold the wet towels around our noses and mouths, our teachers made sure that we were holding our cards that teachers would take away if we did something wrong. Suddenly and unexpectedly, the fire alarm started. Everyone filed neatly out of their homeroom and started down the stairs. The hallway lights were turned off and flashlights illuminated the hallways. It was amazing that no one fell down the stairs because of the amount of people going down it. It was all because the students were following the orders and the evacuation was conducted in an orderly fashion.

After a while, we all made it outside. Fake smoke was everywhere, and we all moved toward the soccer field. We gathered in our homeroom groups while our homeroom teachers told us where to line up. Mr. Ni picked up a microphone and inspected and commented on our homerooms. He told some that they needed work. Others were approved. He allowed the ones who were the best to go first. We all filed up the stairs and into our homerooms again. After a short period of time, the fire alarm went off a second time. We picked up our towels and trooped down the staircase, ran through the thickening smoke that smelled terrible again, and lined up again. Mr. Ni did a second inspection. This time everyone was much better.

Finally, the fire drill was over. It is indeed a great experience for safety always comes first.
