2016 Winter Ball

On January 2nd, an assortment of over 250 juniors and seniors, some hand in hand and others hand in pocket, made their way through crowds to the French Concession for a glamorous night at Sasha's Restaurant and Bar.

Before the doors admitted the splendidly dressed guests of the night, they were passed by a determined crew of ASBs in t-shirts and jeans. Followed by the curious glances of lingering patrons, the ASBs strung the windowsills with festive lights, arranged the photo booth equipment, laid out the DJ gear, and readied the mansion for a succession of exciting activities. By the time the clock struck five, the mansion was ready.

The ball started with classic party games: flip cup, charades, and beer (coke) pong. The air was filled with laughter and burps, as cups of coke were chugged to the beat of the music. A delicious buffet was then served to the lively tunes of a string quartet, providing energy for contestants in the princess carry competition that followed.

The junior ASBs (plus one conspicuous senior ASB) opened the dance floor with the carefully rehearsed steps of “Falling Slowly”, before crowning the 2016 Winter Ball King and Queen, Derril Tian and Jasmine Gu (pictured below).Their heartwarming dance (and kiss) gave way to a pumped up dance party as the DJ turned up the beat, culminating with impromptu performances from particular Art Festival favorites (I’m so sexy!).

As the night came to an end, guests began to trickle out the doors once more, smiles on their faces and photos in their phones. A torrent of WeChat posts followed the ball, some calling the Winter Ball the "perfect start to 2016". For many juniors, this had been a particularly thrilling night, as this was their first out-of-school Winter Ball. The night would not have been possible without the hard work of ASBs, helpers, photographers, musicians, and Sasha’s employees, so thank you!
