Grade 8: Girl Scouts Activity: Teaching English for 6th Graders in Local School

This semester, we had 3 new girls joining the 8thgrade girl scouts troop. They are Joyce Xu, Grace Liu, and Yuka S. While working on the “Media Journey” with the other members, they further challenged themselves by accomplishing the “Silver Award Project” at the same time.

After several discussions and meetings, the 3 girls finally decided to teach the 6thGrade students English at Middle School Affiliated to ECUST. As this school was located in the Meilong area, some students are from poor families. Meanwhile, they don’t have any interest in learning English. As they are around the same age, the 3 girls made a plan by reading stories and playing games while tutoring them, which could motivate them to gain interest.

In order to raise some money to buy English picture books and stationaries for the 6thGrade students, 3 girls had a small charity fair during noon on Dec. 4th2015. The charity fair turned out to be very successful as they earned approximately RMB 1000 within an hour.

I believe with the 3 girls’ effort, the 6thGrade students from the local school would eventually gain interest in learning English. Go for it, girls!
