Shanghai Film Museum Field Trip
Shanghai Film Museum Field Trip
On November 26th, the 7th graders visited Shanghai Film Museum, which was a truly amazing experience. On the school bus, we were all waiting in anticipation of what was going to happen. When we looked inside of the film museum, our breath was taken away. The interior design for the film museum was fascinating, with film tools and cameras hanging from the ceiling.
The first floor contained the history of the film museum and films. There was a small gallery of films and movies. The students took pictures of countless trophies on the walls and awards in display cases. They also stopped to look at a model of a movie shooting with life size props. On the second floor, we saw studio and film items used today, and tools to make them. We tried out some of the flip-books that eventually developed animation. On the third floor, we encountered these cool touch boards that told us the history and summary of movies. The fourth floor was the top floor. We saw the process of filmic works.
The four floors of the film museum were over, but there was one last treat…a 4D movie! A 4D movie, or a four dimensional movie, meant that we would see a 3D movie, but there would be other feelings! For example, we could get sprayed with water. The movie that we watched was a short excerpt from “The Monkey King-The Chaos at the Heavenly Palace”. It is a very popular film. We were all very surprised in the beginning when a stone cracked and fell, and something hit our legs! The theater was filled with surprised shrieks. I reached down, and felt what had us. There was a rubber rope that moved! Then, when a monkey opens a waterfall during the film, my face got sprayed with water! Apparently, there was a small sprayer in front of us that sprayed water. Another effect took place when the Monkey King fought with a mythical Chinese person, and a spear struck down. A blast of wind hit my neck and I nearly jumped out of my seat. Behind us, there was a device similar to the water sprayer, except it sprayed air! The last 4D effect happened when the ground in the film was shaking. I felt vibrations from inside my chair! Overall, I thought the 4D film was pretty good, and even the lighting and sound was great!
The Shanghai Film Museum was a wonderful place, and it made us all forget about the bitter cold in the air and left many beautiful moments to cherish in our memory!
