Grade 5 and 6: Trip for Charity

On October 28th, SHSID volunteers from Grades 5 and 6 went toQinghai. We went there to give things to the children living on these mountains nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. We went to three schools on the first day, three schools on the second day, and a small village on the third day.

The first school we visited did not even have light bulbs in their classrooms, so they had to read outside the classroom in the morning. Volunteers helped the children by teaching them new and fun games; parents and teachers also taught the class briefly. These children also appreciate what we gave them, like putting on their new hats and scarves, and pulling on new shoes. They all seem very pleased and happy with their brand-new, but rather simple gifts. At one particular village, the children there also gave ushadas, a long scarf-like fabric to show their appreciation for our gifts. During this trip, we’ve experienced the ways these hard-working children live, and we also learnt how to appreciate and value what we have, like them.
