Career Day for Senior High School
Career Day for Senior High School
In the “Career day” on Wed. CAS, students actively participated in listening to different professionals talking about their specialties and giving brief introductions on how these careers operate. This provided a great opportunity for everyone to get to know the industry they want to participate in, and gained more insights through communicating with the Lecturers. The lecturers’ passionate talks ignited the campus and incited students to further pursue their dreams. Following are some of the careers:
In the Public Relation, Gary Tan, the CEO of PURE, defined public relation as one of the most important parts of marketing. He emphasized that marketing is not advertising but a way of communication and interaction with people. The required characteristics for a person entering public relation are having common sense, self-awareness, and being nice.
In Golf Magazine, The chief manager of China Golf Magazine introduced Golf Magazine as a highly potential and environmentally friendly market. She claimed that Golf Magazine hopes to hire people who are interested in golf and study in media major.
In Hospitality, Patrick Liu, along with his reference to personal working experience and the enjoyment he received from such career, expands on the idea that hospitality is more than it means; the diversities included in hospitality are in all directions. His sharing of social relationship and beneficial returns determine hospitality to be a well-rounded career while contains great implementation of social relationship with others.
In Finance, the speaker introduced himself as a graduate of Stanford MBA course, and a businessman who has a reasonable amount of knowledge on the mechanisms of finance. Then, he explained traditional segments of finance, using a metaphor of a house. After his concise elaboration, the students went through a round of Q&A section, which was a big help to the understanding of finance.
In Law, a well-experienced lawyer talked about the recognition of law in general, merits of being a lawyer, and a real case that he was in charge of. It was a truly beneficial lecture for students, letting them to understand the position and the responsibilities of lawyers as one of the most significant careers in our society.
In Architecture2 (Interior design) interior designer of B+H was invited as the lecturer. The lecturer showed many images of interior designs such as school, hotel and shopping mall that were designed by B+H, and introduced basic ideas about the job. Students then learned brief steps and processes through designing to completion, and were deeply amazed by the magnificent changes of creations.
In Media, the lecturer introduced two broad topics: basic guide of media and media industry now. Students watched a video clip of a reality show, and discussed some characteristics that make reality shows attractive and popular. Finally, the lecturer listed several academic courses that can be optimum for those students who want to study media in the future.
In Marketing, the lecturer who started a dentist equipment company by himself gave the students a brief overview of how marketing divides and functions. Instead of pure commercials as the students previously thought, marketing does subdivide into numerous complex ways of operation. The lecturer also gave the students a few short commercial videos along with some case analysis, which really gave a lively sense on what marketing really is.
In Investment Banking, the lecturer actually works in MorganStanley, which is one of the most well-known investment banks across the world. He vividly portrays how in the investment banking system, the back stage and the front stage cooperate with one another. To make the points clearer he even illustrated cases that he had worked on.
In HR, Ms Liyuan Wu came to our school to attend the career day event; she gave us a lecture about Human Resource, how HR is not just about hiring and firing people. HR is actually a very complicated and difficult job to manage, because it is not only about people’s relationships, but also managing programs and providing efficient methods and tools. Her detailed explanation allowed us to understand more of the true essence of HR.
