Grade 8 Study Room: A Different Activity Every Week
Grade 8 Study Room: A Different Activity Every Week
Every week we have a different theme in the study room for grades 7 and 8. For the second week, the theme is debate. On Tuesday, students from both grades gathered in the study room, and with great enthusiasm, participated in the activity. At 12:30 the teachers - Mr. Samuelson and Ms. Danielle started the debate with the motion resolved that English is the best subject. The students were on the affirmative, while the teachers represented the negative team. It was a creative, joyful, and interesting debate. Students started the debate with creative and strong arguments, while the teachers rebutted all the points made by the students. The initiative wavered among the two sides throughout the debate. This competitive, but more importantly, joyful debate came to an end with the teachers winning. However, the students acquired some excellent debate skills.
On September 29th, the teachers organized a Chinese Idiom competition which was hosted in the Grade 7-8 Study Room. Students had twenty seconds to view a creative image hinting the idiom, and they had to guess which idiom it was. Over twenty students actively participated in the event, as it proved to be a success. The students who participated said they greatly enjoyed the competition and hoped to be able to participate in a similar event again. All participants received some HI-CHEW as a reward and the top-scoring few managed to secure themselves a prize. Jessica Zhu and Joyi Ding from 8(3) managed to score highest among their peers. Congratulations!
