G8: My unforgettable experience with Alonzo Mourning

“One, Two, One, Two,” a big guy walked slowly onto the Stallion Basketball court. Everyone’s attention turned and focused on him.Alonzo Mourning!!!!! This former NBA star finally appeared in front of me after two days of anxious waiting. I couldn’t control my excitement and I started to think,” Oh my god, am I dreaming? This can’t be happening, there is no way an NBA hall of fame player is here--this is insane!” I quickly changed into my uniform and ran down to the gym. I walked in the gym and was amazed by how tall and muscular Mourning was. I sat down and listened to his talk attentively. I thought his speech was great because it was realistic and full of motivation. I totally agreed with him that we needed to push ourselves, not only in games, but also during practice. I could tell from his speech that he was trying to express: there are no shortcuts to success.

Finally, it was time to take pictures with this NBA superstar. I ran and stood next to him. I suddenly lost all feeling and my head was completely blank. The only thing I knew was to smile at the camera. I was hoping to get his signature, and even printed out a picture of him. Just when he was walking onto the court, I grabbed the picture and ran in front of him, while praising the god to help me get the signature. As expected, he ignored me at first and signed for people that were closer to him. Then I worked my way to get in front of him and held the photo as high as I could. After several rounds, he finally saw my photo and signed it. My heart at that time was completely filled with happiness. I stared at him while he was signing, wishing that time could stop and freeze for me………
