Mike Gatting’s Visit

On the morning of May 11, the famous British cricket superstar Mike Gatting visited SHS. Mike used to be one of the world’s greatest cricketers from England during the 1980s and 1990s. He went on to represent his country 79 times in test cricket between 1977 and 1995, captaining his country 23 times. He was knighted by the Queen in 1987. He currently serves as President of the MCC ( Marylebone Cricket Club) and as Managing Director at the English Cricket Board (ECB). He came to Shanghai to promote cricket to young children as he believes that this sport can help young children not only learn sport skills but also learn more values such as disciplines and teamwork. Principal Feng of Shanghai High School and Principal Ma of the high school of the international division had a talk with Mike Gatting. They learned how cricket education was like in England. PE teachers Hui Lu, Jayme Lawman and Kevin Wright also joined the talk and they shared their ideas about how to promote more sports among young children.
