World Scholars Cup-Shanghai Regional Round was held by SHSID

April 29, 2015

On April 25th and 26th 2015, the World Scholars Cup (“WSC”) had the Shanghai Regional Round at SHSID. Four hundred scholars from about twenty international schools joined this year’s WSC Shanghai Regional Round, such as candidates from the Shanghai American School, Concordia International School Shanghai, and Jincai International School, as well as others.

WSC is a very challenging competition. In order to win, you should not only speak English well, but also should have broad knowledge. WSC is divided into four parts: Team Debate, Collaborative Writing, Scholar’s Challenge and Scholar’s Bowl. Every team has three scholars and team members must work together to compete with other teams. Therefore, it not only requires your own intelligence, but also great teamwork. The competition was scheduled to be completed in two days. On Saturday morning after the opening ceremony, the team debate began. Each team usually had three chances to debate. The debates were fascinating and lasted until 1:00p.m. After lunch, scholars had the collaborative writing and scholar’s challenge sections. These sections allowed the scholars to understand how hard and deep the knowledge required is to compete in WSC. The 1st day schedule was delayed by more than an hour and ended around 6:00p.m. The scholars felt tired but excited.

Sunday was an open day and a lot of parents came to the auditorium to watch the show. In the morning, scholars gathered together to finish their last task, the scholar’s bowl. In the afternoon, the eight best scholars from eight different schools performed a debate showcase. Afterwards, the exciting talent show was on stage. Students sang, played piano, and made mini talk shows. What a relaxing time! The most exciting part came at last. It was time for the gripping closing and awards ceremony. Everyone wanted to get a medal or a big trophy, and most importantly, to get an invitation for the global round in Kuala Lumpur this June. This time the big winners were SHSID and SAS, as the scholars from these 2 schools got the most medals and trophies. And the best news was that all the scholars from SHSID got invitations for the global round. Congratulations to these scholars!

Hard work pays off! Keep it up, scholars! See you all in Kuala Lumpur this June and we look forward to hear the good news from you again!
