Grade 11 Company Visit: Totema Clothing Factory

On April 8th, a group of students from the 11thgrade visited Totema, a clothing company. SHSID orders around three thousand team-style hoodies each year. That’s more than six thousand cutouts for Totema, the team-style clothing customization company that produces not only the SHSID annual jacket, but also the varsity uniforms of the SHSID Stallions. From digital design, fabric selection, silk-screen printing, to high-speed embroidery machines, 25 juniors were given a detailed orientation through all the different types and processes of clothing customization. The Totema guide revealed the intricacies of cost-effective production, where size and fabric make huge differences in cost. Student’s study of economic efficiency, design, and advanced machinery were thus extended beyond the classroom.

At the end of the tour, Totema offered the chance for students to design and print a t-shirt of their own: an opportunity the students will not hesitate to take.
