Grade 11 Company Visit: Schott Glass

On April 8th, a group of students from the 11thgrade visited Schott Company. Schott, a glass manufacturing factory, specializing in producing specialty glasses, is a German company, which has approximate 130 years of history. At the first part of our visit, the company manager showed us what the company looks like, what each departments is responsible for, and how company members interact as a big “family” in the company through activities or meetings in the company. After this, the companies CEO, Albert Chen, explained what they are actually making. The specialty glasses they made include not only common things that we can see in our real life, but also something that we haven’t thought of before. Albert also provided us real glasses for us to touch and examine during his presentation. The last part of the visit consisted of the so called “tea chat”. With managers, interns and Dr. Anne Daentzer, who is the director of legal affairs of the company, we got time to hear advice from them about how we should prepare for our future, and also we were free to ask questions to them, too. Also a college student working as an intern in Schott also provided us many advices in the same perspective as being a student. The whole visit also consists of a small quiz and lottery so that some of us were able to get presents from the company. Despite the fact that most of us were expecting an actual hot glass manufacturing company, most of the students’ reaction after the visit was very satisfactory.
