7th Grade Chinese Culture Week: Designing Opera Masks

December 1, 2014

For Chinese Culture Week, 7thGraders took part in many culturally infused activities in Chinese class to learn more about China. In one of the activities, they created and designed their own traditional Chinese masks. They colored the mask according to what kind of personality they want to portray. Each of the colors had a different meaning behind it. For example, in some places, black stands for evilness or power, in China, having black on your mask stands for having a judge-like quality. They all had, and still are having a great time making and designing their masks, showing them to their friends, and giving each other constructive criticism. This was a great experience.
