“Don’t Ever Give Up”: A message from Jon Pritikin

November 16, 2014

Apart from folding an aluminum frying pan with his bare hands, bending a steel bar in half with his teeth, and breaking a baseball bat in two over his right thigh, Jon coupled his displays of strength with a “story of a little boy,” who, for the most part of his early life, suffered from a learning defect. His narration sent a strong message as he described the emotional challenges the boy faced throughout his childhood, teen years, and early adult years. “Everyone was so mean to that boy,” Jon recalled. After recounting the boy’s unpleasant experiences of being bullied and ridiculed by peers and teachers alike, Jon surprised the gathered crowd by revealing the identity of the young boy in his story. “That little boy […] became a young man [and] went on with his life. That man…is me.”
