Best Wishes from Coach K
Best Wishes from Coach K
The new SHSID Basketball program, led by Coach James Lawman, was formed at the beginning of this semester. With Coach Lawman’s 2 years working at the school, gradual changes have been made to ensure a more authentic basketball experience for SHSID players.
The introduction of a brand new basketball league put together by himself and the Shanghai Schools Sports Association called the SSSABL, this year SHSID players will be playing meaningful games for the first time ever. SHSID will be entering two U19 teams, the varsity squad lead by Coach Lawman and the very capable junior varsity team led by Coach Tim Gomez. The four other schools that will be fighting for the right to be crowned champion are: Western International School of Shanghai, YK Pao, Fudan International School and Wellington College.
Each team will play with each other twice in the regular season with play-off games in January and the final championship game between the top two teams in February just before the Chinese New Year.
Schedules, results, photos, game film, team information, stats and news can all be found at our league website: jaymelawman.wix.com/SSSABL
The exciting news is that our basketball league also got the best wishes from Coach Michael William "Mike" Krzyzewski, nicked named Coach K, at a Principals’ Conference hosted in Beijing. Coach K is an American basketball coach and former player. Since 1980, he has served as the head men's basketball coach at Duke University. At Duke, Krzyzewski has led the Blue Devils to four NCAA Championships, 11 Final Fours, 12 ACC regular season titles, and 13 ACC Tournament championships. Krzyzewski is also the coach of the United States men's national basketball team, whom he led to two gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics. He was the head coach of the American team that won the gold medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. He was also an assistant coach for the 1992 "Dream Team”. (Quoted from Wikipedia, accessed athttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Krzyzewski, on Oct. 17th, 2014.)
Coach K sent a basketball with his signature on it to Principal Feng Zhigang as a token of best wishes for our team and newly formed basketball league.
