SHSID students participated in NASA space school summer program

From July1-19,13 SHSID students from grade 7-8 participated the HASSE Junior Space School Summer program in Houston,USA.

Houston Association for Space and Science Education(HASSE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.Headquartered in Houston,Texas,HASSE is supported by entrepreneurs,scholars and NASA scientists.

Junior space school is a special program designed for students in middle school.It's a program integrating culture,space,science,medicine and marine life.Students will get to know what it takes to become a scientist, flight commander and astronaut by mission simulator training!Scientific experiments, study of sharks, flight simulator,rock-climbing, sports competition…HASSE Junior Space School has all that it needs to immerse students into an experience that encourages self-confidence,patience,teamwork and knowledge-acquiring!

Upon arrival at NASA Space Center and the United States Space and Rocket Center,the students worked tirelessly with their team members to complete several projects and simulations.During their time in the United States,SHSID students put on display their teamwork and their ability to think out side-the-box.

Among the 13 students,Jacky Park performed exceptionally well.Not only did he rally and motivate his team members with his strong leadership and rhetorical abilities,he even received a rousing standing ovation from the audience consisting of many locals and foreign students after his brilliant presentation on stage.For his outstanding performance,he was awarded a gold medal, by the USSRC instructors,to encourage others to follow his example.

The students met Asian American scientist,NASA astronaut and former International Space Station commander,Dr.Leroy Chiao in Houston.After listening to Dr Chiao's speech,during the Q&A session,SHSID students raised questions that caught the attentiono the former astronaut and received his praise and approval.
