Grade One Puxi Math Mini Market

April 10, 2014

Lately, 1st graders have been learning about American coins in math class. We had a Math Mini-Market to help our students apply what they’ve learned to practical use. A piece of paper with coin faces printed on it was given to the students, and by gluing two sides together our students made their own coins. At our Mini-Market, students went to the next-door classroom to buy things. They then came back and sold their products in their own classrooms. Everyone stared at the price list and considered what to buy and how much money they needed. The Mini-Market activity deepened students' understanding of American coins and money exchange.
