Pu Xi Grade 2: Chinese Culture Week

March 31, 2014

March 24th-28th was Chinese Culture Week at SHSID primary section. The 2nd graders were provided with activities throughout the week.

During Monday’s Chinese class, the teachers introduced the history and culture of Chinese fans. After that, the kids got the chance to paint one of their own. Some drew traditional Chinese birds and flowers, some wrote a Chinese poem to go with the picture, and others drew their favorite cartoon characters.

For Wednesday's class, selected parents from each class came to school to give a lecture about traditional Chinese etiquette. The lecture was in 5 parts: filial piety, eating manners, dress culture, manners in public and courtesy to customers. The parents prepared a variety of activities such as films, dancing and games.

Wednesday wasdress-upday. The children put on traditional Chinese clothes such as chi-pao, Han clothing, and Tang suit. Their elaborate costumes transformed the primary building into an ancient Chinese building!

On Thursday morning, all the second graders gathered together in the school auditorium. The school had invited an acrobatics troupe to perform. The students were mesmerized as the acrobats performed feats which caused everyone to hold their breath. After each act, our students applauded enthusiastically to show their appreciation.

For after the show, teachers prepared traditional toys in the classroom so 2nd graders could have the chance to experience what childhood felt like a long time ago.
