Pudong G3: Soil Experiment in Science Class

Grade 3 students on Pudong campus learned about soil in science class. The science teacher set up a "yummy" food experiment. We made a cup of soil using chocolate and cookies!

First, we took Dove milk chocolate and broke it into smaller pieces. Then we laid them at the bottom of a clear plastic cup. That was our "bedrocks". Second, the teacher gave us some small chocolate balls, brown and about the size of our Dove chocolate pieces. We dumped them on top of the bedrocks as our "subsoil". Third, we crunched about five Oreo cookies into crumbs with our bare hands and scattered them on top of the subsoil. That was our "topsoil". We did not pad the topsoil because we wanted it to look natural. I also licked off the leftover crumbs from my fingers. Yum! At last, the teacher took pictures of us with the soil cups. The course was so cool!

The most interesting part was that we scooped out the “soil”, poured it out onto the tissue paper that the teacher gave us, and tasted it with our hands! Yum!
