Grade 10: TOEFL Lecture
Grade 10: TOEFL Lecture
Recently, 10th grade students were given a lecture about preparing for the TOEFL. The lecture was presented by Mr. Stephen Ford and Shuyi Liang from grade 12.
The TOEFL has four sections: reading, speaking, listening, and writing, and all of the sections are taken on a computer. Students should start preparing as early as possible for this test.
Preparing for each section of the test requires the utilization of particular study methods. For the vocabulary section, students are suggested to make their own flashcards. Flashcards from the internet or bought from the bookstore are not the best choices. The process of making their own flashcards subconsciously creates stronger memories in their minds.
With regard to the speaking and listening part of the test, a good way to prepare for it is to watch TV shows with English subtitles or to listen to radio shows.
As for the writing section, the only tried-and-true way to strengthen one's skill is to write more essays. Most of the topics are about comparing two different situations and stating one's own opinion. Practice makes perfect, so keep practicing!
