Grade 10: Field Trip to Shanghai Museum

Recently, Grade 10 students who love visual art went to the Shanghai Museum. We visited and studied the “Barbizon through Impressionism” exhibition. Painted with oil, the paintings’ changing colors and bright fundamental keys vividly convey motion, which appealed to me. These masterpieces were once part of the private collection of Robert Sterling Clark. They were later exhibited in the institute named after the collector.

Impressionism gives me the feeling of dim moonlight. The images in the paintings are always vague, but full of meaning. As a result, they bring me joy and beauty. Among all the works, my favorite one is “The Shepherdess.” The shepherdess and sheep appear peaceful in the painting. A path turns down to the end. Beside the path, the bushes are dense and the sky overhead is blue. All the scenes blend together, giving the observer a calm, leisurely feeling. It makes people yearn for the countryside lifestyle.

I liked this trip very much. It immersed me in an atmosphere of beauty. In the early 19th century in France, some of the paintings in this exhibition began an upsurge in the popularity of art. By observing these little pieces of the past, we can know, touch, and feel history.
