Grade 8 World Scholars’ Cup Club I—Preparing for the Competition
“Is this the World Scholars’ Cup Club?” During each lunch break, there was always someone, who had just entered room 413 of the Middle School Building, asking this question. Yes, it is indeed the 8thGrade World Scholars’ Cup Club which worked very hard every single day to prepare everyone as best as possible for the Beijing regional round of the World Scholars’ Cup competition on 17 and 18 March. In fact, the club has increased the number of gatherings from simply twice a week (on Wednesday afternoons and during Thursday lunch) to gathering during lunch and after school every single day in week six. At the gatherings, the club practiced trial debates and wrote strong persuasive essays. However, even gathering so often was insufficient. Thus, the club members took advantage of every single second for more practices and discussions. In this process, much free time, play time and rest time were sacrificed. The club members devoted themselves entirely to the competition to the extent of debating with each other whenever a slight difference in opinions occurred. While preparing for the competition, the club members also had to keep up with the enormous load of school work. Specifically in week five, the club members juggled between preparing for the competition and studying for the monthly tests with good time management. Therefore, all in all, members of the 8thGrade World Scholars’ Cup Club have gone a long way in the preparation for the World Scholars’ Cup.
