Pu Dong G2: Mr. Ben's Speech

Mr. Ben was invited to give 2nd graders a speech about musical instruments. We went into Mr. Ben's laboratory to develop a concoction of musical elements, instruments, and cosmic sonic landscapes. Mr. Ben began with an illustration of the parts of the drumset and guitar, he drew up a basic example of drumset notation on the board and explained the structure. Then, he demonstrated on the drumset how to play a basic 4/4 beat. Next Mr. Ben gave us a little demo of the electric guitar and its parts. After that, Mr. Ben had a loop set up, he could add instruments into the loop in a live setting. Also, he had a microphone hooked in which allowed him to get our 2nd graders involved. Mr. Ben had them add a bit of vocals or mouth percussion to the loop to create our own original song! Some parts erupted into soaring laughter and others into some pretty nice musical material. Over all it was a very interesting class.
