Egg-drop Project

What happens when you glue an egg in between half a dozen of balloons or attach it to a parachute before dropping it out of the third floor? The eleventh grade IB class answered this question in their Theory of Knowledge class on Friday, December 9th. Moderated by the two TOK teachers Mr. Zach Sanders and Mr. Yuh Won Lee, the class presented the results of their 1 1/2 week project. Among the most creative pieces were an egg packed in a bird nest made of straws and paper stripes and another packed tightly in between inflated plastic bags. One after the other, the egg armor complexes were dropped out of the third floor window in Xian Mian Building, and two students bravely volunteered to examine the eggs for survival upon landing. Luckily (or “unfortunately boring” according to the two teachers), all eggs survived and the volunteers got away with clean hands. In the end, the fastest, lightest, and most beautiful awards were given out to the proud winners. As a result, eggs, both whole and broken, could be found in every corner of the IB classrooms for the rest of the day….
